Lincoln, Neb., -Registration is open for University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s 13th annual Chemistry Day on Sept. 28.
More than 120 Nebraska high school juniors, seniors, and their parents and teachers are expected to attend UNL Chemistry Day. The event is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry and features a variety of hands-on activities, guided tours of research labs, a look at exciting career opportunities in the field of chemistry, and a chance to win scholarships to study chemistry at UNL.
This year’s theme, “Energy, Now and Forever,” will be highlighted in lab demonstrations, and with activities including a scavenger hunt, Chemistry Quizbowl, panel discussion featuring current UNL chemistry undergraduates, and roundtable for parents and teachers. Alumni will be on hand to talk about how a degree in chemistry helped launch their careers. A light breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided for participants.
High school seniors in attendance can register to win one of five scholarships. The department plans to award more than $4,000 in 2014-15 academic year UNL scholarships to prospective chemistry majors. Interested students must plan to declare chemistry as their major at UNL. To be considered, students must have completed a high school chemistry course, have an overall GPA of a B-plus or higher and bring a copy of their high school transcript.
The event is free to attend, but registrations must be received by Sept. 23. All events will take place inside Hamilton Hall.
