The Not-for-Profit Law School Art Gallery features a new exhibition with works by faculty. A gallery wine and cheese reception, with the faculty artists in attendance, is set for Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 5 — 6:30 p.m. at the UNM School of Law, 1117 Stanford N.E.
The Law Faculty Show features four law school faculty members’ work. Three faculty members — Barbara Bergman, Sherri Burr and Steven Homer — photograph natural and urban landscapes. The fourth, Antoinette Sedillo Lopez, produces bronze sculptures and religious retablos.
“The University of New Mexico School of Law Not-for-Profit Art Gallery is unique in the nation. I do not believe there is another law school with an art gallery dedicated to showcasing the art of its staff, students, faculty, alumni and supporters,” said Professor Sherri Burr, UNM Regents Professor, host of ARTS TALK, a weekly television she produces and hosts and the driver behind the law school’s Not-For-Profit Art Gallery.
“The staff and student shows have been successes. The ultimate goal is to have the Art Committee fund a scholarship for a creative law student to encourage creativity among their peers,” Burr said.
The Not-for-Profit Law School Art Gallery started with a showing of art by artists who are also law school staff members in the spring of 2013, is rotating through showings of varied media and artists including students, faculty, alumni and friends of the law school and the university.
