TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - You might have seen the orange blobs flying across the sky on Sunday near the University of Arizona.
Dozens of local students from middle and high schools built catapults to see who could launch pumpkins the farthest.
Using math, physics and engineering skills, students also competed to see whose catapult could launch pumpkins the most accurately to hit a target. Some pumpkins flew more than 300 feet.
Organizers say it is a great way to show students how math is applied to real world situations.
